Caxton launches two more Urban News community papers

Diepkloof Urban News is the second, and Pimville Urban News the third, community newspaper launched into the Caxton Urban News stable. Represented by the Newspaper Advertising Bureau (NAB), Diepkloof Urban News became available the end of June and Pimville Urban News launches at the end of July. With circulations of 30 000 and 25 000 respectively, the Urban newspaper series now totals 85 000. The two latest community newspapers are set to advance Caxton's aim of bringing significant local news to the people
of Soweto.

Gill Randall, Joint Managing Director of NAB, says that retailers have reacted rapidly to the Urban News community papers, with the first in the series, Protea Urban News, a great success with advertisers. "Diepkloof & Pimville Urban News are appealing to advertisers who are realising the value of reaching people living, working and most recently, shopping in Soweto. Diepkloof is an affluent area of Soweto with an effective infrastructure which we believe has not until now, been fully penetrated by advertisers."

"Pimville, also a prosperous area, is centrally situated with most shopping activities taking place at the Maponya, Trade Route or Bara shopping malls," says Gill. "The Urban News series will benefit advertisers in influencing residents to distinguish where to find the best savings for particular services, products, household appliances, furniture, clothing, medical care etc."

Both Diepkloof Urban News and Pimville Urban News are distributed on Thursdays. "Further Urban News papers will be localised to specific areas in Soweto as we are convinced that the time is right to expand the community newspaper model to these areas," says Gill.
